Deja vu 1 was the first group exhibition that I curated with seven artists in Aun gallery in Tehran 2013. I invited 7 local artists to create pieces inspired by their personal déjà vu experiences. The result was a week long conceptual video installation exhibition. With over 1000 visitors the exhibition was a great success.
In déjà vu 1 I had my own work at display as well. At the time I was fascinated with the neurological explanation of the déjà vu phenomenon. Hence In my video installation I challenged myself to replicate the experience of deja vu for my audience by Juxtaposing their present experience and something resembling a past memory. I built a room sized box with giant mirrors and placed a hidden projector that projected a POV style video on the mirrored walls. Stepping into the box the audience could see their own image as well as the video reflected on the room’s floor and walls. That was my personal Déjà vu.
